The Great Wall of China – Yeah, I’ve Seen It
The Great Wall of China – Yeah, I’ve Seen It avatar

The adventures continue. After a day of being down with the weather from some lovely “General Mao’s Revenge” in Beijing, we were ready to get out and about again from our hotel and see some more sites of Beijing and the surrounding areas. Fortunately for us, the Saito Kinen Festival organized a group trek to the Great Wall of China. We were about to see one of the most famous man-made objects in the world!

The Forbidden City – It’s Not Forbidden After All!
The Forbidden City – It’s Not Forbidden After All! avatar

The Forbidden City in Beijing, China is one of the most famous landmarks in China (perhaps only surpassed by the Great Wall of China). During our visit to Beijing for the Saito Kinen Festival, Daveda and I paid the Forbidden city a visit. Fortunately for us, the city is not so forbidden after all.  ;)

Sir? Sir? Have You Been to the Great Wall?
Sir? Sir? Have You Been to the Great Wall? avatar

My last entry was a synopsis on our travel to Beijing and our first impressions of the city, based only on our limited views from our bus and the airport. My next entry focuses on our first real day in Beijing– known to some as Peking, a city representing old-world China at it’s best, and also at its worst.

WARNING: This entry is rather heavy and I don’t hold back my opinions. You have been warned.

At long last, our time in Matsumoto, Japan is at an end. Tomorrow we depart for a new adventure in Beijing, China then complete our Asian adventure in Shanghai, China. In the bathroom?!?!
In the bathroom?!?! avatar

This question was asked by Jonathan, when both rehearsal spaces w/pianos were occupied and I needed a place to warm-up my voice. I know it might seem absurd and strange to go into a public bathroom and sing, but to a singer a space is just a space. Actually, bathrooms have some of the best acoustics!

Find out more about this and what my job as a cover entails below.

A Soba Party: Matsumoto’s Version of a Barbeque
A Soba Party: Matsumoto’s Version of a Barbeque avatar

Recently Daveda had a day off and we didn’t have much to do, for we have seen virtually everything Matsumoto, Japan has to offer for us. There was an open invitation to a “Soba Party” for the members of the Saito Kinen festival, so we figured we would go ahead and attend. We didn’t know it at the time, but we were going to attend Matsumoto-shi’s version of a good old-fashioned BBQ!

Hi!

No, I didn’t hack into Jonathan’s blog. We thought it would be great idea for me to guest contribute to his wonderful blog. As most of you readers know, we are here in Matsumoto, Japan as a part of the Saito Kinen Festival. As to what my work entails, well that is the reason for this contribution. :)

Indian Restaurants in Japan: A Lesson in Assumptions
Indian Restaurants in Japan: A Lesson in Assumptions avatar

The other night we were getting a bit tired of eating sushi and ramen (I know, how could we possibly get tired of that?), so we decided to go out and eat something different. Nearby our hotel is this tiny Indian restaurant named Rajasthan that looked interesting, so we decided to give it a whirl.
